SIXTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE

Call

Pursuant to the authority provided by the Virginia Democratic Party Plan, the Sixth District Democratic Committee hereby calls a Convention, at 10 a.m. May 21, 2016, at Rockbridge County High School, Lexington, Virginia 24450.

Incorporated Documents. All appropriate provisions of the Virginia Democratic Party (DPVA) Plan (“State Party Plan”), as amended, the DPVA 2016 Call to Convention, and the DPVA 2016 Delegate Selection Plan are hereby incorporated into this Call by reference and made a part hereof.

Purposes

The purposes of the District Convention shall be:

To elect two male (one Sanders; one Clinton) and two female (one Sanders; one Clinton) National Delegates, one male (Clinton) National Alternate;

To elect three (3) permanent members to the permanent Credentials and Rules Committees of the State Convention;

To select a presidential elector representing the Sixth Congressional District in the 2016 general presidential election;

To nominate a candidate to the U.S. House of Representatives;

To conduct such other business as may properly come before the Convention.

VIRGINIA 20th HOUSE OF DELEGATES DISTRICT

The Virginia 20th House of Delegates District Nominating Committee (Nominating Committee) will hold an assembled caucus on Saturday, June 6, 2015 beginning at noon at the Staunton Public Library, 2nd floor Meeting Room, 1 Churchville Avenue, Staunton for the purpose of nominating a Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, 20th District (HoD, 20th District).

NOTICE OF 24TH HOUSE OF DELEGATES DISTRICT DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS

The Counties of Bath and Rockbridge, the Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista and those precincts of Amherst and Augusta Counties that lie within the 24th District will hold an assembled caucus beginning at noon, Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Howard Johnson Inn, 2836 N. Lee Hwy., Lexington, to nominate a Democratic candidate for the 24th District Virginia House of Delegates. Any person wishing to seek nomination must pre-file with Gene Zitver, Chair of the 24th District Nominating Committee, (202) 372-7303 (email: gzitver@aol.com) no later than 5 p.m. on May 18, 2015.

There is no charge for those wishing to attend and vote at the caucus. Anyone pre-filing must pay a $50 non-refundable filing fee, with Mr. Gene Zitver.

DPVA Elects Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones as Chair

RICHMOND — DPVA State Central Committee elects Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones to serve as the next Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia. 
“I couldn’t be more honored to serve as the next chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia,” said Mayor Dwight Jones. “Having been a Democrat my whole life, I have seen the party grow to what it is today, a party that fights for issues important to all Virginians, issues like access to affordable health care,  making sure women receive equal pay for equal work, and fighting to ensure all Virginians are treated equally across the Commonwealth.
“I look forward to the next chapter at Democratic Party of Virginia and I’m excited to work together with Democrats across the Commonwealth to continue building a strong, sustainable party that will keep Virginia blue for years to come.”

DPVA Grassroots Awards Nominations Sought

It’s that time of the year again. The Democratic Party of Virginia will be taking nominations for the Committee of the Year Awards, Innovation Award, and a new award this year— the Emerging Leader Award. Winners will be announced at the DPVA Grassroots Awards Luncheon on June 29, 2013 at 12:30PM at the Richmond Convention Center. The top 3 finalists for each award category will be announced a week before and those committees will get 3 free tickets to the luncheon.

Details for nomination submissions will be posted separately.

Local Committee of the Year Nominations 

This award acknowledges three city/county committees that have had a positive influence on the local Democratic community and the 2012 elections through party building, outreach, community service, goal obtainment, organizational development, and electoral success. This year we feature three categories for this award: Category I, Category II, and Category III. An explanation for these categories can be found below.

Please note, a committee must be current with its 2013 Local Committee dues, as well as have its committee membership roster and by-laws on file with DPVA to be eligible for these awards.

Local Committee Innovation Award

The Local Committee Innovation Award is designed to recognize the achievements of committees that have implemented creative ideas and think “outside the box” in their local committees in order to achieve goals.

Nature of the Award
The award shall consist of a certificate to be presented to the Local Chair(s) and all Local Committee members who were key contributors to the innovation.  The award shall be presented at the Grassroots Leadership Awards Luncheon on June 29.

Purpose of the Award
The purpose of the award is to recognize innovation by a Local Committee during the previous year (2012) that will have a positive impact on future operations, collaborations, outreach or communications within the Local Committee, other Local Committees, or within the DPVA.

Emerging Leaders Award

Purpose of the Award

The Emerging Leaders Award will be awarded to a Young Democrat, 30 years-old or younger, that has played an integral part in helping build your local committee and elect Democrats.

DPVA Emerging Leaders Award

Purpose of the Award

The Emerging Leaders Award will be awarded to a Young Democrat, 30 years-old or younger, that has played an integral part in helping build your local committee and elect Democrats.

Examples:

– YD elected to an officer position and has served the committee relentlessly in 2012

– Collaborated with Organizing for America and hosted weekly phone banks

– Started a YD Chapter in a county, city, or school

– Ran for office

– Led voter registration efforts

– Volunteered whenever asked by committee leadership

Eligibilty:

– Member of local committee

– 30 years or younger

Nominations:

A nominating letter which contains a 250-word description of the YD being nominated.
