The Roanoke Times reports that Freeda Cathcart, a two-time Democratic House of Delegates candidate, said Monday she will run for the Roanoke City Council.
Cathcart will seek a nomination in the Roanoke Democratic Committee’s March 4 primary, she said.
Three council seats are up for election May 6 — those currently held by Democrats Ray Ferris, Bill Bestpitch and David Trinkle. Ferris and Bestpitch have said they will seek re-election. Trinkle, who just lost a bid to run as the Democrat in the upcoming special election for the 11th District House of Delegates seat, has said he hasn’t decided whether to seek a third term on the council.
