Next Tuesday, May 6, is Election Day. The Lynchburg Democratic Committee has endorsed Joan Foster, Randy Nelson and Treney Tweedy for City Council. All registered voters in the City of Lynchburg can cast up to three votes. If you will be unable to vote on May 6 because you will be out of town, or for several other reasons, there is still time to vote in-person absentee at the Registrar’s office on Odd Fellows Road, through Saturday May 3. For additional information contact the Registrar’s office at 847-1609.
We believe that our endorsed candidates will win if enough people turn out to vote. The danger is that turnout may be lower than usual, skewing the results. We hope that you not only vote, but encourage others to vote, either through personal contacts or as a get-out-the vote volunteer. The candidates and the LDC need volunteers for these actions:
Saturday, May 3: Door-to-door canvassing at 10 AM and again at 1 PM, meeting at the Elks Lodge parking lot at 5th and Polk Streets. Canvassing voters by phone at 1344 Main Street (next to Robin Alexander’s) at 10 AM.
Sunday, May 4: Door-to door and phone canvassing, both at 1344 Main at 2 PM.
Monday, May 5: Phone canvassing from 1344 Main from 10:30 AM to 8 PM
Tuesday, May 6, ELECTION DAY: Can you help hand out sample ballots and other campaign material at polling places? If so, or if you would like to canvass door-to-door or by phone, can provide rides to the polls, need a ride, or know someone who needs a ride, please call the Lynchburg Democratic Committee office at 845-1400.
There will be a Get out the Vote Rally on Saturday May 3 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Elks Lodge parking lot, 5th and Polk Streets. Sponsors are the Voters League, the Elks Lodge and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. All six candidates have been invited to speak. Activities include:
Music from DJ Bruce Toler
Free hot dogs, chips and soda from Noon to 3
Processing non-violent felons restoration of rights applications
Representatives from United Way’s 211 program
Health screenings
